Choose a specific model, control or documentation question.
- Choose a suitable sander
Choose contact geometry before power or brand. Some corners are better finished by hand than by buying another machine.
- Corded or cordless sanding
A fixed bench and frequent moves can favour different choices. Compare the cable, hose, battery and charger as one working arrangement.
- Five preflight checks
Check material, machine, abrasive, collection and workholding before a controlled sample; an unloaded run is not a substitute.
- Adjust pressure and speed
Use two comparable sample areas and change one factor at a time instead of blaming every poor result on speed.
- Grit sequence and acceptance
Use a defined bare-oak and water-based stain example to plan 120 to 150, with checks for continuing, advancing or returning a stage.
- Model-specific dust setup
Choose DCW210, DWE6423, SR250801 or SR211601 collection, then follow a complete DWE6423 original-bag example.
- Align and fit a sanding disc
Fit an eight-hole hook-and-loop disc to a DCW210 or DWE6423, check the edges and troubleshoot lifting paper or poor extraction.
- Sander will not start
First distinguish a missed connection from a shutdown accompanied by electrical damage. The external problems you can correct are limited; repeated starting does not clarify an unknown fault.
- DCW210 battery and speed setup
Use the DCB203 and DCB112 kit combination as a concrete example, check charging and battery retention, then choose a material-based speed trial.
- DCW210 vacuum routes
Separate direct DWV010/012 connection from the specified hose plus DWV9000 route, then unlock, seat, lock and rehearse hose travel.
- DWE6423 speed between stages
Identify switch A and wheel B, separate abrasive changes from speed changes, and compare two similar areas before keeping a new setting.
- DWE6423 dust bag care
Fit and release the collar, clear retained dust using the bag's spring and gentle tapping, and distinguish loose joints, tears and blockages.
- DEWALT sander Type and manual identity
A Type 2 download with an older printed date is not automatically wrong. Match actual body, Type, market and internal document identity rather than a familiar model name alone.
- Random-orbit start and stop
Compare ROS20VS and PCL406 normal sequences, rehearse without power and keep unresolved model instructions separate.
- Inspect before changing grit
A stopped, cleaned inspection uses three scratch examples to decide whether to continue, investigate contamination or advance, including paper, pad and edge checks.
- Cordless-sander battery compatibility
Verify tool-to-pack, pack-to-charger and charger-to-supply separately. Physical fit answers none of those relationships completely.
- Bare-tool versus sander kit
Compare usable existing equipment and exact included items, not the size of the box. Different owners can reasonably choose differently.
- Corded sanders and extension leads
Read the exact current row and total-length column. A higher AWG number means a thinner conductor, not greater capacity.
- Route cords and extraction hoses
Rehearse the full disconnected stroke to find pulling, clamp snags and loops falling under the pad before sanding.
- Old paint or an unknown coating
Even a small trial turns coating into dust. Establish the material and scope before choosing ordinary power sanding, rather than starting because a dust bag is fitted.
- Wood-dust exposure
Turn material, work area, source capture and cleanup into a practical plan. A collection bag that fits is one component, not control of the whole task.
- Match the dust collector and filter to the material and tool documentation
A fitting connector is only one part of the system. This DWE6423 and DWV010 example identifies the hose, filters and bag as well as the material boundary.
- Check scratches with side light
Clear dust, change the light and viewing direction, then distinguish remaining coarse scratches from new isolated marks.
- Old-wood hardware inspection
Follow a reclaimed shelf across faces, edges, joints and bracket backs, then separate removable fittings from unresolved hardware.
