Two incompatible starting positions
These are conflicting instructions, not two recommended steps to try.
1. Clear of the work
Printed page 10 describes starting away from the workpiece.
2. On the work
Printed page 11 describes contact before starting; obtain model-specific clarification.

Identify the booklet and pages
Check GSS20-40 on the cover, document 2610051953 and revision 08/18. This specific conflict is not a claim about every Bosch sander. Another revision needs its own check.
Use the printed page numbers, not just the PDF viewer’s count, and stay within the same language section.

| Printed location | Instruction in summary | Consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Page 10, switch discussion | Switch on and off clear of the work | Pad not touching at startup |
| Page 11, starting sanding | Place pad on the work before starting; do not spin up first | Pad already touching at startup |
These cannot be successive steps for the same startup. A later page does not automatically override an earlier one. Ask about shutdown in the same enquiry so the whole sequence is clarified.
Prepare the tool identity
With the tool stopped and unplugged, record the full nameplate identity. The US product information lists service part identity 3601 BA 2110, while 06012 A 2110 is the product-page identifier. Neither should be substituted for your actual serial number.
Prepare a readable nameplate photograph, a whole-tool photograph, purchase region, booklet revision and both page references. Mark unknown information as unconfirmed rather than guessing or opening the housing.
Ask a specific question
“My tool is GSS20-40, nameplate identity [actual information], supplied in [region]. Booklet 2610051953,08/18, says to start off the work on printed page 10 and on the work on page 11. Please confirm the correct startup and shutdown sequence for this unit and any applicable corrected instructions.”
If the answer merely says to follow the manual, point out the two passages. If it supplies another model or regional document, confirm applicability. Keep the dated answer with the tool record.
While awaiting clarification
Keep power disconnected while checking consumable identity, visible condition, workholding and dust-control arrangements. Do not compare the two methods by repeated starts on any workpiece, including scrap.
A ROS20VS instruction or an online demonstration is not a correction for GSS20-40. Similar appearance does not establish the same sequence. Damaged wiring, an unreliable switch, loose paper or abnormal vibration also require separate attention; clarification of wording does not repair a faulty tool.
