Protect the whole water-containing kit from frost
Original storage diagram marks residual-water locations in the main unit, gun and hose, alongside a complete kit stored in a frost-free room.
Main unit
Drain by the matched procedure, never another model’s timer.
Gun and accessories
Address each water-containing part before storage.
Hoses and storage
Drain as permitted, coil without kinks and store the complete kit frost-free.
An apparently empty hose does not prove the pump is drained. Use the exact model’s draining procedure and keep every accessory frost-free. Conceptual schematic, not a product image or scale drawing.
Arrange the storage place before the cold arrives
Choose a dry, secure room that stays above freezing, including at night. A shed that feels warm in the afternoon may still freeze before dawn. Keep the machine upright as its manual requires, away from heat sources and with ventilation unobstructed. Make room for the gun, lance, hose and detergent accessories as well as the main unit.
Inspect the hoses and seals while the machine is still usable. Replace damaged pressure parts before the next season rather than coiling them out of sight. Finish permitted detergent flushing before storage so residue is not left in the accessory system.
Empty external parts after safe shutdown
Complete the matched shutdown, unplugging and pressure-release process before detaching parts. Remove the supply hose and permitted accessories, drain them in their allowed orientation and use broad loops rather than sharp bends. Do not force a sealed component apart because it sounds as though water remains inside.
Clean the machine exterior with the method specified by its manufacturer. Bosch UniversalAquatak 135 calls for a soft brush or cloth, not washing the housing with water or using solvent or polish. Clear loose debris from ventilation openings without pushing tools into the machine.
Pump draining is model-specific
The Bosch UniversalAquatak 135 storage section instructs brief motor operation for a few seconds to empty the pump, followed by trigger operation to release remaining water. The Kärcher K4 Power Control Flex has a different defined frost-protection arrangement. These are exceptional manufacturer procedures, not permission to operate a pressure washer without water during normal use.
For the matched K4 Power Control Flex instructions, the device is disconnected from the water supply and the gun is separated from the high-pressure hose. With the hose outlet safely directed away from people and electrical connections, switch on and stop when water no longer emerges; the stated maximum is one minute. Switch off again and disconnect power for storage. This one-minute ceiling belongs to that manual, not to a Bosch or an unidentified Kärcher model. If your nameplate/manual does not match, use its own procedure instead.
Complete a storage checklist
- Confirm the machine, supply hose, high-pressure hose, gun, lance and water-containing accessories have all been addressed.
- Close detergent containers and keep them in the conditions on their labels, separate from anything children can access.
- Coil cables and hoses without trapped sections; do not pile heavy objects on the machine or hose.
- Store every part in the frost-free location, not just the expensive main unit.
Do not add automotive antifreeze or a pump-storage chemical unless the exact washer instructions approve that product and method. “Useful for another pump” is not enough to establish compatibility with seals or later discharge.
Restart after storage without masking frost damage
Before reconnecting power, inspect the casing, accessible fittings and hoses. If any part may still be frozen, allow it to thaw safely; never use a heat gun, flame or energized motor as a thawing method. A split fitting or new internal leak needs replacement or service before use.
Then restore the normal water setup and air-clearing process before operating. Stop for unexpected leakage, abnormal sound or failed pressure. Draining and frost-free storage reduce the risk; they do not guarantee that a machine already exposed to freezing is undamaged.
