Match the model to its document code

Three document symbols correspond to XFD15, XFD16 and XPH16 manual identifiers.

  1. 1 · XFD15

    885850-949

  2. 2 · XFD16

    885A01-940

  3. 3 · XPH16

    885A00-942

Codes locate candidates. Open the full file and match internal model and language before following it.

Record two identities before searching

Switch off and remove the battery, then read the external label without opening the housing. Record the exact XFD15, XFD16 or XPH16 model, serial number and purchase region. Record the complete order code, such as XFD16T, separately. The base model identifies the drill; the package suffix identifies the purchase, not a universal revision.

For charger lights or battery requirements, record those devices’ models too. The drill manual does not automatically supply instructions for every item in the kit. Keep serial numbers and personal order information private for support.

Document clues for these three drills

These identifiers locate candidate US support documents; open the file before applying it. A document number is not the tool’s manufacturing date.

Tool model Instruction identifier Date code in parts filename
XFD15 885850-949 06-21
XFD16 885A01-940 06-23
XPH16 885A00-942 06-23

The selected instructions are North American English/Spanish records. The parts filename codes identify the file, not your tool’s production month or a component’s serial-number applicability range.

Get from a product page to a usable full file

  1. Use Makita’s official site for the purchase region and search the physical model. For the US example, use XFD16 rather than substituting a similar DDF name.
  2. Distinguish Instruction Manual from Parts Breakdown in the model’s support/download section. The former is for operation, the latter for component identification.
  3. Download and open the complete file. Check cover/opening model, language and document identifier; XFD16’s candidate should correspond to 885A01-940. A high search ranking does not make another model suitable.
  4. Read the intended task alongside surrounding warnings, control diagrams and applicability conditions. Viewer and printed page numbers may differ; save the language section and heading.
  5. Keep a file you can reopen with its code. If download fails, the file is damaged or diagrams are missing, request the complete document from official support. Do not reconstruct unseen steps from search excerpts.

Finding a PDF name is not the finish line. You need an accessible, understandable file matching the tool and required procedure. Fragments do not replace full instructions for diagrams, operation sequences or detailed limits.

Make a completed XFD16 record

A record could read: “Physical XFD16, US purchase; XFD16T package; instructions 885A01-940; internal model and language checked; separate applicable BL1850B and DC18RC instructions saved.” Write “checked” only after doing it. A file you have not opened remains “to obtain, ” not a completed example to copy.

For XPH16, seek 885A00-942 and the hammer-mode instructions. XFD16 rotation-only content cannot fill unknown XPH16 hammer steps, and XPH16 instructions do not give XFD16 that mode.

Parts drawings help ask a question, not choose a repair blindly

A diagram’s item number may be a position reference rather than the ordering code. For a missing hook or damaged external item, provide model, serial, component photo and document identity so official support can confirm the exact ordering code and applicability. “Item number …” alone is insufficient. Shared 16 digits do not make gearboxes, switches or chuck assemblies interchangeable.

A parts illustration is not a disassembly tutorial. Internal circuitry, gearboxes, battery packs and safety-related components need qualified service; this guide does not instruct opening them. Identify the component before buying or fitting a similar-looking replacement.

Ask precisely about market or name conflicts

DDF and DHP regional identities do not directly replace these XFD and XPH models. Ask: “My label says XPH16, purchased in …; document code … says … inside. Please confirm applicability and provide the matched operating or parts record.” Include the external label and conflicting page.

Apply instructions only after model, internal content and market agree. The aim is a document you can actually use and revisit, not merely a plausible filename.
