Check identity and the fitted disc
The nameplate resolves unit identity; the eight-hole disc diagram illustrates the US abrasive pattern, not pad mounting.
1. Tool nameplate
Confirm the actual electrical rating and model; a package suffix is insufficient.
2. Abrasive disc
The original US setup uses five-inch, eight-hole hook-and-loop paper.

Start with the actual tool
Switch off, wait for the pad to stop and unplug. Record the BO5041 nameplate, complete electrical rating, actual serial number, purchase region and supplied booklet identity. A package suffix does not replace these details, and a previous owner may have changed the pad.
Photograph the nameplate and tool, then inspect the fastening face. Do not open the housing or change a plug to make an uncertain electrical version fit an outlet. Keep it disconnected until electrical suitability is established.

| Field | US configuration | Buying check |
|---|---|---|
| Nominal disc diameter | 5 inches | Select the disc size, not a rounded pad measurement |
| Extraction pattern | 8 holes | Match positions as well as count |
| Attachment | Hook-and-loop | Use the matching fuzzy backing, not PSA over hooks |
| Speed range | 4,000–12,000 OPM | Model information, not replacement-pad compatibility |
For an intact, identified original US setup, start with five-inch, eight-hole hook-and-loop discs and check the specific accessory application. If the actual pad lacks hooks or has another pattern, resolve whether it was replaced before fitting paper.
Abrasive diameter is not a complete replacement-pad specification. The pad also needs the correct part identity and mounting interface; nominal size does not establish screw positions, thickness or fastening system.
Check the downloaded booklet
The US product page links a filename containing BO5041K; its cover lists BO5040 and BO5041. This does not rename your tool, nor make model-specific instructions interchangeable.
Check cover models, language section, document identity and the actual operation you need. European conformity material does not automatically invalidate every mechanical instruction. Equally, a US link does not erase regional limits inside the document. Establish applicability to your unit’s supply, accessories and operation.
If the wording says to peel a backing
The accessory list includes hook-and-loop discs, while an assembly passage uses generic peel-backing wording. Do not treat that as permission to convert the US hook-and-loop setup to PSA or glue paper onto hooks.
Keep the passage and nameplate photographs. Ask Makita to identify the complete applicable manual and disc attachment for your actual unit and fitted pad, including any required part numbers. Asking whether BO5041 is sold in the US does not resolve this specific mismatch.
Check fit before running
Once compatibility is confirmed, fit the disc unplugged according to the applicable instructions. Centre it, align holes and check all edges for lifting, folds or unsupported areas. Failed holding requires correction, not powered seating. Unresolved electrical identity, conflicting instructions or abnormal vibration also prevents a return to use, even if the disc fits.
Keep the confirmed instructions with the tool record and recheck the actual pad when buying later. Matching model names do not establish universal accessory or electrical interchangeability.
