Bosch: model, mode and package
Three Bosch model cards distinguish the named tool type, battery platform and exact US sales listing.
GSR12V-300Cordless drill/driver
- Bosch 12V Max lithium-ion; use model-specific battery/charger list
- Compact 12V model; drill/drive positions with a 3/8-inch chuck.
- GSR12V-300N — US listing
GSR18V-400Cordless drill/driver
- Bosch 18V / AMPShare, subject to exact battery and charger instructions
- 18V drill/driver; keep the B12 kit identity separate from the tool model.
- GSR18V-400B12 — US listing
GSB18V-975CCordless hammer drill/driver
- Bosch 18V / AMPShare, subject to exact battery and charger instructions
- Hammer mode and KickBack Control; GCY42 connectivity module is optional.
- GSB18V-975CN — US listing
Compare drilling modes first, then battery platform and package. The two GSR models drill and drive; GSB18V-975C also offers hammer drilling.
Compare the useful differences
These are US versions. The 300 and 400 drill and drive screws; the 975C adds hammer drilling. No-load speed is not a timed result for making a hole.

Chuck size describes shank accommodation, not maximum drilling diameter in every material. Check the approved material, cutter type and diameter as well as whether the shank fits.
Furniture and cabinets: start with the 300
For hinges, furniture screws and small pilot holes, the GSR12V-300 is worth considering first when suitable Bosch 12V Max equipment is already available. Its six-inch head and smaller chuck make space and accessories the key questions. The listed bare-tool weight is 1.6 lb; include the fitted battery and bit when assessing the working setup.
Measure from the work surface to the opposing cabinet panel. Add the bit length protruding from the tightened chuck and room for feed. Check battery clearance and proper hand placement. A head that fits inside a cabinet may still leave no room to align the bit squarely; do not solve a clearance shortfall by drilling at the wrong angle.
Everyday work on 18V: consider the 400
The GSR18V-400 head is about 7.6 mm longer than the 300’s, with an 18V platform and 1/2-inch chuck. Existing compatible 18V equipment can avoid maintaining a second charging setup. A larger shank gives the larger chuck a concrete purpose only when the accessory and job are also approved for the tool.
A first-time buyer can price the specific 400B12 package: tool, BAT612 2 Ah, charger and bag. The contents list does not identify the exact charger model; confirm it and the input rating for regional purchases or existing-battery needs. The drill has no hammer mode. An 18V label does not turn it into a universal wall-drilling tool.
Suitable hammer-drilling tasks: consider the 975C
Hammer mode is the clearest functional addition. Its separate mode selector also lets the clutch setting remain when switching between driving and drilling. These controls may help when alternating suitable jobs, but specify the material, hole, bit and fixing first.
Allow for its size: the 7.6-inch head is about 33 mm longer than the 400’s, plus space for auxiliary handling. KickBack Control has operating conditions; it does not replace the side handle, secure workholding or preparation for a stalled bit’s reaction. Never exceed an accessory’s speed requirements to seek an electronic protection condition.
The 975CN page describes 3.4 lb tool-only in one place and 3.5 lb in its specifications, so neither number supports a precise weight ranking here. GCY42 is optional, not automatically fitted. Confirm module, region and current software support before buying solely for a connected function.
Decide using three real jobs
List your three common tasks with material, hole or screw size, position and mode. Furniture work with suitable smaller-shank accessories and existing 12V equipment points toward the 300. Ordinary drilling with larger approved shanks or existing 18V equipment points toward the 400. Include the 975C when a suitable task actually needs hammer mode.
Compare complete equipment cost, not just bare-tool prices. Frequent concrete drilling, large holes or SDS accessories require a tool chosen for those tasks, rather than the largest model number in this group.
Bosch: from label to the right document
A four-step document-selection path: read the us listing, then separate model and mode, then keep market identity, then stop at a service mismatch. Each step includes the relevant model-specific caution.
Read the US listing
GSR12V-300N and GSB18V-975CN are tool-only listings; GSR18V-400B12 is a kit containing the GSR18V-400 tool.
Separate model and mode
The two GSR models are drill/drivers. GSB18V-975C adds hammer mode; the optional GCY42 module is not standard equipment.
Keep market identity
Use the exact US model manual. A similarly named overseas GSR model is not automatically the same tool.
Stop at a service mismatch
The 975CN-linked parts page displays GSB18V-755C with type 3601JG0311. Confirm with Bosch before using it for parts selection.
Use the full Bosch model identity at each step. A shared manual or similar name does not establish identical modes, battery compatibility or interchangeable service parts.
