A connection is only one of four gates
A washer outlet feeds a surface-cleaner deck; four symbols mark machine approval, operating envelope, connection and level surface, with an insufficient-flow route crossed out.
Approval
Match the exact machine and accessory.
Envelope
Check both minimums and maximums.
Connection
Use only the approved assembly.
Surface
Match material and operating orientation.
The 6.4 versus 9.5 L/min example rejects one combination; it is not a general rating of either brand.
Collect two sets of specifications
For the washer, record the exact model and region, operating pressure and flow where stated, maximum ratings, water-temperature limit and approved accessory family. For the cleaner, record its model, minimum and maximum pressure and flow, temperature limit and connection type.
Keep the definitions attached to the numbers. A maximum nozzle-flow claim is not automatically the sustained flow available with every accessory. If the maker supplies an explicit compatibility list, use it; do not replace it with a calculation based on deck diameter.
A fully scoped accessory example
The US SIMPSON 80625 16.5-inch surface cleaner product page links manual 7126333, revision B, July 2026. Its specification table gives:
Swipe or scroll horizontally to see all columns.
| Field | Published accessory requirement |
|---|---|
| Pressure | 2000–4000 PSI (13.8–27.6 MPa) |
| Flow | 2.5–4.0 US GPM (manual rounds this to 9.5–15.0 L/min) |
| Water temperature | Maximum 140 °F /60 °C |
| Connection | Product page specifies 1/4-inch quick-connect at the wand |
The manual limits operation to hard, level, horizontal surfaces and requires the base to remain on the surface while running. These conditions are part of the match too. A deck or wall is not approved simply because an accessory’s marketing list mentions outdoor cleaning.
Work through a real rejection
The UK Bosch UniversalAquatak 135 example has a rated flow of 6.4 L/min. That is below the 80625 manual’s 9.5 L/min minimum. Its published maximum 7.5 L/min does not close the gap either. The correct conclusion is do not select this accessory for that example, not “buy an adapter and try it.”
The rejection does not say that every surface cleaner is unsuitable for that Bosch. It says this particular accessory’s documented envelope is not a match. Look for an explicitly approved, appropriately sized accessory or use the approved fan method instead.
Use a four-gate purchase check
- Machine approval: confirm the actual washer/accessory combination, not only the brand name.
- Operating envelope: compare minimum and maximum pressure, flow and temperature. Do not pass a match because just one maximum is high enough.
- Connection and handling: verify the correct gun, wand or hose connection and approved adapter, if any. Include supported weight and intended operating posture.
- Surface and task: check the surface maker’s permission, joint condition and whether the job is flat enough for the accessory’s design.
A failure at any gate means pause the purchase. Missing minimum-flow information should remain an unanswered question, not become zero by assumption.
Do not buy a diameter formula
A wider housing changes coverage, but does not establish adequate jet action or acceptable cleaning speed. No universal inches-per-GPM rule is used here. Likewise, do not resize factory jets or change the rotating bar to make a mismatch appear compatible.
For example, a homeowner with narrow paths and interrupted paving may value an approved compact cleaner more than a large deck that is awkward around edges. Another owner with broad sound concrete still needs the hydraulic match before width matters. Neither scenario justifies a promised cleaning-time saving.
Check the delivered item before its first use
Compare the model on the actual product and its supplied instructions with the purchase record. Inspect the connection and housing while disconnected. If specifications conflict between a catalogue and the delivered manual, resolve that difference before operation.
This matters in practice: another SIMPSON model, 80182, has differing flow figures in checked official materials. This guide does not silently use one of those values to certify compatibility. Uncertainty is a reason to verify, not a reason to average the numbers.
