Two compatibility links, not one

Tool, Star-marked battery and charger form two separately checked links.

  1. 1 · XFD16

    Confirm the exact approved battery.

  2. 2 · BL1850B

Read full code and Star marking only when safe to inspect.

  3. 3 · DC18RC

Confirm battery support and local input supply separately.

Generic symbols; the star is not an exact label layout. Model, condition and charger input must also match.

Read the platform before judging size

These are US-market names. Regional voltage labels can differ, but similar appearance does not justify substituting equipment.

Swipe or scroll horizontally to see all columns.

Platform Common US voltage designation Meaning for these drills
LXT 18V XFD15, XFD16 and XPH16 belong here; check the exact pack
CXT 12V max Not the battery platform of these three drills
XGT 40V max Not the battery platform of these three drills

XFD15’s Sub-Compact name describes size, not a switch to CXT. A blue Makita tool, slide-on shape or larger Ah number cannot replace model matching. Similar voltage is not a reason to alter a connector.

Find three things on the battery

First confirm that equipment is stable, without abnormalities and safe to approach. Only then remove the pack from tool or charger as instructed and read the external label without opening it. If it is smoking, leaking or persistently abnormally hot, do not approach, touch or attempt removal simply to read a label. Keep away and seek help according to local emergency guidance.

Record the complete model, such as BL1850B, the platform/rating and the Star symbol. The selected tools specify corresponding Star-marked LXT batteries. The star identifies that protection system, not remaining charge or a capacity unit.

An illustrative star identifies the kind of mark to seek, not a universal label layout. If it is unreadable, obtain official identification from a clear external photo when safe. A seller saying “Star compatible” is insufficient. Model, approved list and condition all matter. Swelling, cracks, leakage, heat damage or deformed contacts mean no continued use or charging; do not open the pack or replace cells yourself.

For XFD16, write “XFD16 → BL1850B” and check the exact permitted battery rather than merely “18V → 18V.” XFD16T supplies that particular pairing, making it a clear reference for checking that kit. Another battery still needs its own complete model check; matching colours are not enough.

For a mixed used bundle, request separate tool and battery labels. Rails appearing to line up do not establish compatibility. Do not force latches, trim plastic, alter contacts or rely on an unknown tool-side adapter. The correct pack must latch normally according to instructions; stop if the match is unresolved.

Continue the same example: “BL1850B → DC18RC.” XFD16T lists both, and the applicable instructions permit that combination. This is a completed example, not permission for every charger. Record charger model and input rating, then confirm the battery lies within its supported range.

Do not directly mix platforms. If a manufacturer supplies a specific charging-adapter arrangement, it still requires the instructions for that exact combination. A charging-side arrangement does not mean CXT or XGT packs can directly power an LXT drill. Cross-platform adapter operation is outside this guide.

Check the US charger against local supply. A fitting plug or plug adapter does not establish the correct input voltage and frequency. If the label or region is unclear, obtain confirmation from the manufacturer or a qualified person before connecting; do not try power to find out.

Leave a record that can be checked again

A useful record is: “XFD16; two BL1850B, normal external condition; one DC18RC, input checked against location; both compatibility links confirmed.” Model suitability and physical condition are different findings. Do not collapse them into “the set works.”

Ask at the failed link: battery to tool, battery to charger, or unknown charger input. Provide readable labels and codes to the seller or official support before buying missing equipment. This avoids purchasing an LXT bare drill because you own CXT packs, or removing a necessary charger from the budget before its compatibility is known.
