Three kits, three battery pairs

Put bare tools beside their kits
These US manufacturer box lists were checked on 23 October 2026. Use them to verify a quotation, not as a retailer stock promise. Promotions, other regions and changed SKUs need their own written contents.

| Bare tool / kit | Listed bare-tool accessories | Kit batteries | Kit charger | Storage and other items |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3403-20 / 3403-22 | Belt clip | One XC4.0 48-11-2440; one CP2.0 48-11-2420 | 48-59-2401 | Contractor bag |
| 3601-20 / 3601-22CT | Belt clip | Two CP2.0 48-11-1820 | 48-59-1812 | Contractor bag |
| 2904-20 / 2904-22 | Side handle, belt clip | Two XC5.0 48-11-1850 | 48-59-1812 | Hard case, side handle |
These -20 tools exclude batteries and charger. Bare tool does not mean the 2904 lacks its required side handle; keep that in the operating setup.
-22 does not promise identical packs. The 3403 pair differs in capacity, dimensions and handling, and is not one 6Ah battery. The other two kits use M18, while 3403 uses M12; identical counts are not equal equipment.
Existing owners should calculate real shortages
With reliable compatible M12 packs and charger, 3403-20 avoids duplicates. If rotation requires another pack, compare bare tool plus that pack against 3403-22 instead of comparing box prices alone.
An owner of M18 CP2.0 and 48-59-1812 wanting compact cabinet drilling can start with 3601-20. The -22CT adds two CP2.0 packs and another charger; these have practical value only if needed. An unused charger’s retail price is not cash automatically saved.
For the 2904’s larger-hole work, include battery and gripping requirements. Its -22 supplies two XC5.0 packs. A pack fitting the bare tool does not excuse checking the tool, battery and application instructions.
First buyers need a ready-to-work total
Separate tool, required batteries, appropriate charger, task-specific bits, and necessary protection/dust controls. Compare storage too, but do not buy the wrong drill for its case.
For furniture pilot holes, 3403-22 already supplies two capacities and a charger. A cheaper bare-tool-plus-pack promotion still needs charger, any useful spare and storage included in the comparison. New M18 users should first choose the actual job capability of 3601 or 2904, then the package. More battery capacity alone does not make a kit better for home use.
48-59-1812 charges M18 and M12 but does not allow M12 batteries to power M18 tools. Cross-region purchases also require actual charger input voltage and frequency; a plug adapter does not convert an unsuitable supply.
Inspect deliveries in this order
First assess smoke, leaks or persistent abnormal heat. Do not approach, touch or remove such a pack to inspect codes; keep away and seek local emergency guidance. Only handle stable, safely approachable equipment for these external checks.
- Match complete order SKU and the tool’s actual -20 catalog label.
- Count packs and inspect each model, Ah and part code, especially the mixed 3403 pair.
- Check charger model and input. A bare-tool manual does not make a missing charger present.
- Check storage and required accessories, particularly the 2904 side handle.
- Do not power-test to overlook damage, missing items or unclear identity. Retain order and packaging information and ask the seller to resolve discrepancies.
Buy the package whose additional contents you will actually use. An itemized list explains savings better than memorizing suffix rules.
